Meet Tyler

Get to Know Tyler Crichton

Hi! I’m Tyler, and I am running to be your City Councillor in St. James. I’m committed to listening, working together, and delivering practical solutions for our community.

Why Tyler is running

Protecting the everyday moments that make St. James special.

I want to protect the everyday moments that make St. James so special—the “St. James Pause” when we stop our conversation as a plane flies overhead; the splash of a fish in Sturgeon Creek while you read a book from the Westwood Library; and the sound of birds in Bruce Park while sharing a treat from Sargent Sundae. I want my niece to grow up on safe streets where she can ride her bike down to the playground.

For me, leadership is about rolling up your sleeves. Whether I am working alongside my wife, Marlana, and our friend Jan to run St. James Community Coffee, bringing neighbours together to reignite the Sturgeon Creek Association, planting so many trees across Winnipeg that I’ve lost count, or volunteering at community events, I believe in showing up for our neighbourhood every single day.

How Tyler leads

My Values
& Approach

I believe in respect, collaboration, listening,
practicality, community care, and sustainability.

Progress Through Teamwork, Not Division

When solving tough problems, it should be us together against the issue, not us against each other. True progress requires a councillor who can negotiate, collaborate, and build strong partnerships both inside City Hall and across our neighbourhood. I look for common ground, treat differing perspectives with respect, and focus on community outcomes ahead of political “point-scoring” on social media.

Leadership Through Listening

Listening isn’t just a courtesy—it’s a critical tool for solving high-stakes problems. My approach is to gather data, ask the right questions, and understand the real experiences of the people who live here before making decisions that affect them.

Small, Consistent Actions Build Big Futures

It is tempting to look at city planning from the top down, which leads to expensive studies with little real-world action. I believe in starting with humility: stepping out onto our streets, listening to residents, and identifying the most immediate, practical step we can take to make life better now and create momentum for the future.

Act Local, Think Sustainably

Big change starts with local action. It starts with picking up litter on our trails, supporting a small business down the street, or giving an afternoon to a community centre. I believe strong communities grow when we care for our neighbours and show up for one another. I want my office to be where residents can go to take action together.

Professional leadership

Experience That Delivers

I’ve spent more than a decade as a senior IT leader and project manager at a Canadian technology company, where I’ve learned how to bring people across the country together, solve complex problems, and deliver tangible results. That experience—connecting teams, communicating clearly, and driving projects of all sizes forward—shapes how I’ll serve as councillor and representative for St. James, focusing on practical solutions and community relationships.
